Master Eboné M. Smith's Bio
I am a 5th-degree black belt (Godan) in Ja Go Jitsu Ryu, the third generation of GOJU Karate under Grandmaster Frank Ruiz of Nisei GoJu Ryu. My martial arts training spans Karate, Jitsu, Judo, and Aikido, with over 20 years of experience in both learning and teaching. My journey began at the age of five under the guidance of Grandmaster Louis A. Jackson—my father and lifelong Sensei. As the child of THE Sensei, I had a love-hate relationship with martial arts growing up. It wasn’t until high school that I began to truly enjoy the art. That’s when I started blending tradition with flair—performing katas and techniques in high heels and teaching other girls how to fight in them. Martial arts has helped build my confidence and sense of self-worth in immeasurable ways. I firmly believe that nothing is impossible, and I love championing the truth that femininity, intelligence, and strength are not mutually exclusive.
Abbreviated Resume
- International Martial Arts Champion - Competed in tournaments across the USVI, BVI, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and the mainland USA - Trained with Sultan Uddin (Mortal Kombat stuntman) - Trained with Fumio Demura (Pat Morita’s stunt double for Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid films) - Coached students at the US Open Karate Tournaments in Orlando, FL - Instructor for Girls Self-Defense classes in after-school and summer programs - Favorite weapons: bo staff, fan, and umbrella – practical tools I love for their everyday accessibility
In addition to martial arts, I’m also a mathematics professor who enjoys teaching students from elementary to college levels. Some might think I’m crazy for loving two of the most challenging subjects—math and martial arts—but I approach both with creativity, tradition, and high expectations, all while keeping it fun. I welcome you to class! Oosh!
